Yesterday CBC’s The National included a report by Ron Charles about the particular barriers facing Syrian refugees as they begin to look for their first employment in Canada. He interviewed newcomers at a job fair organized especially for Armenian refugees from Syria, where he found people with excellent credentials, who still need to brush up their English language skills and acquire some Canadian experience to add to their resumes. He then turned to an expert, Lifeline Syria Chair Ratna Omidvar who spoke about the value for newcomers in taking some time to settle into life in Canada and practice English before rushing into the job market.
